Southampton Academy’s varsity baseball team will be playing for the Virginia Independent Schools Athletic Association Division III state championship this weekend at Shepherd Stadium in Colonial Heights.
The No. 2-seeded Raiders reached the final after defeating No. 3 Kenston Forest School 2-0 on Thursday, May 16, in the state semifinals, which were also held at Shepherd Stadium.
SA (16-5) advanced to the semifinals after routing No. 7 Broadwater Academy 15-5 in the quarterfinals on Monday, May 13.
In the state title game, the Raiders will be taking on No. 1 Walsingham Academy, which has been dominant this year. The Trojans are 24-8 overall, including an 11-0 state semifinal win over No. 4 Brunswick Academy and a 16-0 state quarterfinal victory over No. 8 Blessed Sacrament Huguenot School.
Southampton Academy will be looking to avenge a pair of shutout losses it sustained against Walsingham during the regular season.
Due to rain on Saturday, May 18, the VISAA Division III state championship baseball game has been rescheduled for noon on Sunday, May 19.
