God is eternal and infinite. Everything that God is, He is infinitely. That is great news! Infinite simply means “without limits.” The first sentence in the Bible, Gen. 1:1, says, “In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth.” God exists outside of time and space. Psa. 145:13 says, “Your kingdom is an everlasting kingdom, and Your dominion endures throughout all generations.” Rom. 16:26 calls God the eternal God. God’s attributes or character traits are infinite. Let’s briefly look at a few of them.

God is omniscient, all-knowing. Psa. 147:5 states, “Great is our Lord and abundant in strength; His understanding is infinite.” In 1 John 3:20 we read, “…for God is greater than our heart and knows all things.” The psalmist says that God knows our words before they are even on our tongues! (Psa. 139:4) Nothing takes God by surprise. He even knows us better than we know ourselves, because we can have blind spots or be self-deceived. But He knows us and loves us.

God is omnipotent, all-powerful. Psa. 115:3 says, “But our God is in the heavens; He does whatever He pleases.” In the aftermath of Jesus’ encounter with the rich, young ruler, we read this in Matt. 19:25-26, “When the disciples heard this, they were very astonished and said, “Then who can be saved? And looking at them Jesus said to them, “With people this is impossible, but with God all things are possible.” God is powerful enough to help you and He cares for you.

God is omnipresent, meaning present everywhere, all the time. Psa. 139:7-10 says, “Where can I go from Your Spirit? Or where can I flee from Your presence? If I ascend to heaven, You are there; If I make my bed in Sheol, behold, You are there.

If I take the wings of the dawn, if I dwell in the remotest part of the sea, even there Your hand will lead me, And Your right hand will lay hold of me.” We are never alone. One time I briefly lost track of my child in the playground of a crowded park. What a horrible experience that was! But guess what? God never loses track of us!

Everything that God is, He is infinitely. God is love. He never runs out of love. God is merciful. He never runs out of mercy. God is gracious. Jesus’s death on the cross and resurrection was infinitely adequate to pay the price for the sin of the world. John 3:16, “For God so loved the world, that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him shall not perish, but have eternal life.” Many people think they’ve sinned too much for God to forgive them. That’s a lie from Satan.

God is also infinitely holy, righteous, just and trustworthy. God is only limited or bound by His own nature. He cannot sin or violate who He is. He’s a God worth putting your faith in.
