FRANKLIN, Va. — Bronco Federal Credit Union has announced the appointment of Michael “Mike” Kenzie as the new Chief Executive Officer, effective July 22, 2024. Following an extensive internal and national search, Kenzie was selected to lead the credit union into its next phase of growth. He will succeed Brian Hedgepeth, who has served as CEO for 13 years and announced his retirement in April.

Kenzie brings over 25 years of experience in the financial industry, with 16 years dedicated to the credit union movement. He has a proven track record of driving growth, enhancing member experience, and fostering innovation. Before joining Bronco Federal Credit Union, he served as Chief Information Officer at Patriot Federal Credit Union, where he managed nearly all aspects of operations. He was instrumental in enhancing member engagement through mobile banking and the OmniChannel initiative, growing the credit union’s assets, and leading two mergers. He also oversaw the construction of five new branches.

Before his financial career, Kenzie served in the 75th Ranger Regiment Special Operations Unit of the U.S. Army, completing three combat deployments in Iraq and Afghanistan. He holds a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration and a Master of Science in Information Systems. He is a graduate of the Certified Chief Executive program, which includes executive certifications from Wharton, Cornell, and the University of Virginia Darden School of Business, along with numerous other leadership and technology certifications.

Kenzie is also committed to community engagement, having led leadership training for the Chamber of Commerce and taught at the local community college. His dedication to fostering leadership development aligns with his deep-rooted small-town values.

“We are thrilled to welcome Michael ‘Mike’ Kenzie to the Bronco Federal Credit Union family,” said Dell Cotton, Chairman of the Board of Directors. “He is a motivated leader with the experience and insight necessary to guide our credit union into the next chapter. We are confident that under his leadership, Bronco Federal Credit Union will continue to achieve new heights and deliver exceptional member service.”

Cotton also expressed gratitude to Hedgepeth for his 13 years of leadership, noting that he has positioned the credit union for success. Hedgepeth will work closely with Kenzie to ensure a seamless transition until his retirement in the fall of 2024.

In response to his appointment, Kenzie stated, “I am incredibly honored and excited to continue building on the strong foundation that Brian and his dedicated team have established at Bronco Federal Credit Union. Their hard work and commitment have positioned the credit union for great success. Working alongside an exceptionally talented Board and staff, my focus will be on putting our members at the center of our strategy, continuously evolving and developing new ways to fulfill our commitment to being a positive, empowering, and enabling presence for our members, staff, and community.”
