FRANKLIN – Denise Renee Tomlinson McGuire, 57, passed away July 7, 2024 in her home with her husband by her side. She was born in Michigan and was a graduate of Western Michigan University with a Bachelor’s Degree in Biology specializing in Bat Biology.
Denise traveled all over the world presenting professional and scientific symposiums and instructive workshops. She authored various articles relative to bat husbandry and captive care. She appeared in 2003 on the David Letterman Show with “Bat World Sanctuary.” Denise was considered an authority in her field.
She was a member of the Hampton Roads Kennel Club and loved showing and training dogs and teaching people how to show their dogs.
Left to cherish her memory is her husband, Daniel Patrick McGuire; her mother, Wanda Woodard Adkin; her father, Benjamin Charles Wilsey Jr.; her brother, Benny Wilsey and a niece, Mara, all of Michigan; her father-in-law, Joseph McGuire and a sister-in-law, Melissa Vaughan (Keith) and their daughter, Kelly.
A celebration of Denise’s life will be held the first weekend in October at the Hampton Roads Kennel Club Dog Show. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Batworld.org or Southern States Rescued Rottweilers.
