Southampton Sheriff’s Office make arrests in connection with Courtland shooting

Southampton County Sheriff’s Office arrested three in connection with a Friday, July 5, 2024, shooting in Courtland. According to a press release from Maj. Camden Cobb with SCSO, a search warrant was executed on Thursday, July 11.

“One subject tried to flee the residence on foot through a rear window and was taken into custody by deputies. Two others were arrested within the residence. Both of the alleged shooters from the incident on July 5 were among the three that were arrested. A total of four semi-automatic pistols were collected as evidence,” Cobb said in the release.

Among those arrested were Kelontae Fleetwood, 19, of Courtland, who was charged with felony shooting into an occupied dwelling, misdemeanor reckless handling of a firearm, destruction of property, and discharge a firearm in public; Armonye King, 21, of Franklin, who was charged with felony shooting into an occupied dwelling, misdemeanor reckless handling of a firearm, destruction of property, and discharge a firearm in public; and Trevoris Evans, 30, of Courtland, who was charged with possession of a firearm by a convicted felon.

All suspects were taken into custody without incident and transported to the Southampton County Jail.

Deputies responded to the 25000 block of Oak Trail in Courtland in reference to shots being fired. Deputies discovered that multiple apartments and vehicles had sustained damage from gunshots. There were no injuries reported.
