The third annual Walters Community Carnival put on by the Walters Ladies Community Club will be offered Saturday, Aug. 3, as a free, fun event for anyone in the community and surrounding areas.
The carnival, featuring activities particularly aimed to appeal to school-age children, will take place from 10 a.m.-2 p.m. at the Walters Ruritan Club Community House, located at 27746 Walters Highway in Carrsville.
Walters Ladies Community Club President Shawn Carr is organizing the event along with Becky McConnell and Dot McDonald, and Carr outlined the event’s features, which include Carrsville Volunteer Fire Department firetrucks.
“We have some static displays by the fire department,” Carr said. “We have several bounce houses and a bounce house obstacle course. And the Isle of Wight (County) Sheriff’s Office is bringing their rock-climbing wall.”
Franklin Fire and Rescue will again bring its fire safety trailer, which functions as a simulator and teaches children what to do in the event of a fire.
Face painting will be offered at the carnival, and attendees will also have the opportunity to play some old-fashioned carnival games.
Free food provided at the event will include hot dogs, hamburgers, duck sausage, popcorn and snow cones. The interior of the community house will be available for seating.
Carr said the purpose of the carnival is “basically just to provide a fun event for the community to come and enjoy for free.”
