A man accused of an armed abduction and domestic assault in Carrollton was arrested less than 24 hours later at a home in York County.

According to an Isle of Wight County Sheriff’s Office news release, dispatchers received a call about a domestic disturbance at an address on St. Catherine Drive, a side street off Whippingham Parkway in Carrollton, around 11 p.m. on Aug. 11. After speaking with the caller, they obtained search and arrest warrants for 38-year-old Joseph Warren Harrington of Carrollton on multiple felony charges.

A York-Poquoson Sheriff’s Office emergency response team said they found Harrington hiding in a closet at a residence in the 100 block of Court Road in York County on the afternoon of Aug. 12 after several hours of failed attempts to persuade him to surrender himself.

Harrington faces multiple felony charges, including abduction, strangulation and child abuse, and weapons violations, as well as misdemeanor domestic assault, contributing to the delinquency of a minor and obstructing someone from calling law enforcement.

Isle of Wight County investigators questioned Harrington following his arrest at the Virginia Peninsula Regional Jail, where he remains until he’s transferred to a local facility.

This is a developing story.
