Dr. Catava Burton is the daughter of the late Johnnie Burton Jr. and the late Evangeline Burton. She resides in Isle of Wight County. Currently, she is an exceptional education teacher in Southampton County. She has worked with children and adolescents for nearly 25 years and coached more than 1,000 educators on behavior management, culturally responsive practices, and trauma sensitive classrooms. She has trained parents and stakeholders on addiction, girl drama (bullying), social media and mental health, and decoding teenagers’ cellphone secret messages. Catava has received certifications in trauma informed care, restorative practices, mental health first aid, and psychological first aid. Also, she has been a national speaker/presenter at the Innovative School Summit, Elementary and Secondary Education Act, and Beyond Consequences Institute where she received the Pioneer in Education for Trauma Informed Care Award.
Catava’s pageant platform is Mental Health Awareness, and she has advocated at the General Assembly, served as a writer/storyteller for nonprofit organizations, expert panelist, mental health guest speaker for podcasts, to include Kulture Shock, participated in the Out of the Darkness Walk for suicide awareness, and contributed to Frank Hallum’s book, “Manhood 101.”
