COURTLAND – After a 5-year-long cancer battle, Gwen Renee Davidson Fisher, 55, passed away Aug. 21, 2024, in her home surrounded with family by her side. Born and raised in Franklin, she was a daughter of the late John Stanley Davidson and Mary Ruth Hughes Davidson.
Gwen was a 1987 graduate of Franklin High School and a lifelong member of Beaver Dam Baptist Church.
She was known by many as having a larger-than-life personality, though many will also remember her deep fondness and devotion to her mother, Mary. There was rarely a moment when the pair were seen apart. In addition to Gwen’s love for her mother, she was an avid sports lover, especially when cheering on the UVA Cavaliers. Along with her love of sports and family, Gwen was an accomplished Registered Nurse, with a career spanning over 28 years. Throughout her career she worked at Sentara Obici Hospital, Sussex II State Prison, Riverside Regional Hospital, MCV, Pitt Memorial Hospital, John Randolph, Halifax and served as a supervisor for three years for Maryview Hospital.
Left to cherish her memory is her husband, David Brian Fisher (Courtland); two sons, Devin B. Fisher and Ryan D. Fisher (Courtland); a brother, Gregory Madison Davidson (Courtland); an aunt, Doris Hughes (Sandy Hook, Virginia); and two first cousins, Tommy Hughes (Sandy Hook, Virginia) and Jennifer Layne (Bowie, Maryland).
Services will be private.
The family suggests that memorial donations be made to the American Cancer Society.
