The Cookie Chic LLC is a new bakery that will sweeten the area beginning Sunday, Sept. 29, when it opens at its location inside The Sassy Sisters boutique store at 70 E. Windsor Blvd. Suite H in Windsor.

Co-owned by Sharlene and Tyler Stone, The Cookie Chic will have its own storefront inside The Sassy Sisters and will operate out of the pre-existing kitchen there that Tyler recently renovated and retrofitted so that it could be certified for use as a commercial bakery.

Sharlene said The Cookie Chic will offer baked goods, mostly cookies, and she will do custom cookie orders.

“Eventually we are hoping to move on to to-go lunches, where that would look like pimento cheese, things like that, that Windsor doesn’t offer, that (customers) can just come in and grab,” she said, affirming that the business could take on a deli aspect.

HOW THE COOKIE CHIC WAS BORN

With three children, Sharlene had been a stay-at-home mom for nine years. The youngest child went off to school for the first time last year, and so Sharlene returned to the workforce.

She initially worked for an eye doctor, but she developed some health difficulties and had to miss a lot of work there as a result.

“I have a heart problem,” she said. “I recently just had to have a heart monitor put in to keep an eye on my heart.”

These health challenges led her back out of the workforce, at least temporarily. The recess from employment provided an opportunity for her health to stabilize and for her to consider her next step.

“I just decided that I was going to make a cookie, and I made it for one of my kid’s birthdays… and it took off,” she said.

It was in January 2024 that the popularity of her cookies began to grow organically and significantly.

She noted that she had baked previously “for families and stuff like that, but nothing like this that’s just blown up.”

It was in April that she began to operate a booth inside The Sassy Sisters.

She also sold her cookies at the Windsor Farmers Market.

Starting a business was something Sharlene and Tyler had thought about before.

“Definitely, it’s always been a dream of both of ours,” Sharlene said.

Consequently when the idea for a cookie shop came about, she said, “My husband is a big supporter, so he was all in.”

After The Sassy Sisters had indicated it was open to the Stones operating The Cookie Chic inside its pre-existing kitchen, Tyler expressed his commitment to the business idea by renovating the entire space. 

“We had to have five sinks put in, and he was the plumber, he was the painter, he was all of it, so he re-did the entire kitchen so I could have a certified kitchen,” Sharlene said. “He’s not in that industry, he’s never done any of that before, he just did it.”

And he did it well, allowing the kitchen to pass inspection. 

Sharlene will be leading the way with the baking, and Tyler will serve as food manager, having earned the license for that title.

The “Chic” in “The Cookie Chic” is pronounced “chick” rather than “sheek,” as Sharlene explained that the name draws inspiration from her daughter’s love of chickens. 

“She’s had lots of chickens, and we recently just had to get rid of all of them because a fox got them, but she’s obsessed with chickens,” Sharlene said.

Sharlene also noted that all three of her children and her husband serve as great cookie taste-testers, offering positive feedback and helping her hone her skills.

The grand opening of The Cookie Chic will run from 11 a.m.-4 p.m. on Sunday, Sept. 29. Following that, the business will be open from 10 a.m.-5 p.m. seven days a week.
