The Rawls Museum Arts hosted Girl Scouts from multiple troops on Saturday, Oct. 12, for an art project during their community walk through Courtland while completing their Explore Southampton County patch.
An RMA news release noted that amid a walking tour that covered the courthouse, the Rochelle-Prince House and more, the girls stopped before lunch to participate in an activity in the main gallery at the museum.
Troop Leader Donna Farnham, accompanied by 14 scouts and parents, spent an hour at the museum completing a metal tooling foil craft where each one could make their own necklace. This activity was coordinated by RMA’s executive director, Zoë Beale, who was happy to pose for a photo with the troop after it finished.
This is one of many events that the RMA hosts. The following Monday, Oct. 14, the museum welcomed staff from all members of the Blackwater Regional Library, pairing with Amy Fisk at the Courtland branch for a paint activity following their inservice.
“Bringing art into people’s lives is what we strive to do here every day,” Beale said. “There’s nothing like seeing people enjoy spending time in our gallery.”
The Rawls Museum Arts is open Tuesday-Friday from 10 a.m.-4 p.m. and Saturdays from 10 a.m.-2 p.m.
Upcoming events at the Rawls Museum Arts include a Business After Hours event on Wednesday, Oct. 23, from 5:30-7:30 p.m.; a book talk and signing with John Railey on Friday, Oct. 25, at noon; the Blackwater Artist League Reception on Friday, Nov. 1, from 5:30-7:30 p.m.; a book talk and signing with Roze Worrell on Saturday, Nov. 9, at 12:30 p.m.; and a vendor market and free art day for Small Business Saturday on Nov. 30.
