The Virginia Department of Transportation (VDOT) is hosting a public information meeting on Wednesday, Oct. 23, 2024, from 6 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. at the Sussex County Courthouse to discuss the proposed roundabout at the intersection of Route 35 (Jerusalem Plank Road) and Route 40 (Sussex Drive) in Sussex County.
The project, according to VDOT, aims to enhance traffic flow and safety by converting the existing intersection into a single-lane roundabout. VDOT expects the roundabout to reduce traffic delays and queues while minimizing the risk of accidents, particularly right-angle and head-on collisions.
The meeting will have an open-house format, allowing attendees to examine project exhibits, engage with VDOT representatives, and offer feedback, with no formal presentation.
VDOT says Public comments are welcome during the meeting or can be submitted in writing by Nov. 4, 2024.
Written comments can be mailed to:
Stacey Burrows, P.E., Project Manager
Virginia Department of Transportation
7511 Burbage Drive, Suffolk, VA 23435
Comments can also be emailed to Stacey.Burrows@VDOT.Virginia.gov with “Route 35/40 Roundabout Project Comment” in the subject line.
In case of severe weather on Oct. 23, the meeting will be rescheduled to Wednesday, October 30, at the same time and location.
