The town of Windsor alerted the public Thursday morning, Oct. 24, to multiple alleged attempts to scam someone who was seeking to know about vendor opportunities at the upcoming Windsor Christmas Market and Parade.

Windsor Town Manager William Saunders said that a commenter on the Facebook event post for the Windsor Christmas Market and Parade asked if vendor spots were still available.

“Two different individuals commented that the potential vendor should contact them,” Saunders stated. “One gave an email address, and the other asked to be direct-messaged. Neither of these commenters were affiliated with the town of Windsor.”

Saunders noted that the town does still have vendor spots available for its Saturday, Dec. 7, Christmas Market and Parade events, but applicants seeking more information should contact only the town and town-affiliated personnel, and they can do so via the following methods:

• Calling Windsor Town Hall at 757-242-4288;
• Visiting Windsor Town Hall in person at 8 E. Windsor Blvd.;
• Emailing the town’s Events Committee at townofwindsorvaevents@gmail.com; or
• Sending a direct message to the Town of Windsor, Virginia Facebook page.

“The flyers for the event also have a QR code on them, which takes you to the online application and information,” Saunders stated.

The flyer with the QR code was posted by the town on its Facebook page Thursday afternoon, Oct. 24.

A Thursday morning, Oct. 24, post by the town on its Facebook page warned of the alleged scamming attempts and stated, “The town of Windsor does not ask for vendor payment information via online means at this time. Anyone claiming to be affiliated with this event that is requesting payment information is fraudulent.”

Saunders stated, “Currently, we are only accepting payment in person at the Windsor Town Hall or by mailing your payment to the town of Windsor.”
