IVOR – Barbara Ann Parker Carr, a devoted nurse, loving wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother, sister and friend, of Ivor, Virginia passed away on Nov. 11, 2024 at the age of 89. Barbara Ann spent over 70 years caring for others as a nurse, leaving a legacy of compassion, dedication and unwavering commitment to the well-being of her patients.

Born on Aug. 26,1935 in Walters, Virginia and a graduate of Franklin High School, Barbara Ann developed a deep sense of empathy from a young age, which led her to pursue a career in nursing. l specialties ranging from the Emergency Room Department to the Acute Care Unit to Family Practice offices, touching the lives of countless individuals and families with her skill and kindness.

Known for her gentle demeanor and tireless work ethic, Barbrara Ann was a pillar of strength in her community, often going above and beyond to ensure those in her care received not only the best medical treatment, but also the compassion and respect they deserved. Her colleagues admired her for her professionalism and her ability to connect with patients, making them feel seen, heard and comforted during some of their most challenging moments.

Outside of her professional life, Barbara Ann always put the needs of others first. She loved to cook and share with those around her. Her love and generosity extended far beyond her nursing career and she was a friend to many, offering guidance, support and kindness in every relationship she had. Barbara Ann, a member of Ivor Baptist Church, found great comfort and strength in her faith throughout her life.

Left to cherish her memory is her son, Clifton Merrell Carr Jr. (Ginnie), her daughter, Sandra Vick (Greg); her granddaughter, Tamee Railey (Benjamin); her grandson, Andrew Vick (Hilary Newlon); her great-granddaughter, Danee Railey; brother, Earl Parker (Delores); sisters-in-law, Carolyn Carr, Judy Carr; several special nieces and nephews, many dear friends, patients and colleagues whose lives she touched with love and care.

She was preceded by her husband, Clifton Merrell Carr; Sr. her mother, Gladys Johnson Parker; her father, Guyver Lee Parker and her sister, Virginia Parker Gray.

The family wishes to express their heartfelt thanks to the staff of Bon Secours Southampton Medical Center, Skilled Care, East Pavilion and Gentiva Hospice for their compassionate care and dedication. Your kindness and support brought comfort and dignity to Barbara Ann in her final days.

The family will receive friends at R.W. Baker & Company Funeral Home and Crematory, Wakefield Chapel on Wednesday, Nov. 13 from 6 – 7:30 p.m. A funeral service will be held at R.W. Baker & Company Funeral Home and Crematory, Wakefield Chapel on Thursday, Nov. 14, at 11 a.m. with Rev. Peter T. Atkinson officiating. A graveside service will follow the funeral at Ivor Cemetery. Family, friends and all those whose lives she touched are invited to come together to remember and honor her life of selfless service.

Box 228 Ivor, Virginia 23866, continuing the spirit of care and compassion that defined her life’s work. Barbara Ann’s legacy of kindness, compassion and commitment to others will live on in the countless lives she touched throughout her career and beyond.
