Windsor Town Councilman Walter Bernacki has been reelected through write-in votes in the 2024 November General Election.
Three seats on the council were available entering the election this year, but only two candidates were on the ballot: current councilmen Jake Redd and Marlin W. Sharp.
Bernacki had announced in February that he did not intend to seek a third term, and he hoped the advance word would allow time for new candidates to come forward. When none did, he was willing to be an option for write-in votes.
Part of Bernacki’s reason for not formally running for a third term was a potential post-retirement move away from the area that could come within the next four years, preventing him from serving a full term.
According to unofficial results on the Virginia Department of Elections website as of Saturday afternoon, Nov. 16, there were 120 write-in votes for Windsor Town Council, and 22 of them were listed as adjudicated write-ins for Bernacki.
Bernacki stated on Saturday that he was notified he received the most certified write-in ballots.
