The Franklin High School Army Junior Reserve Officers’ Training Corps (JROTC) program once again spearheaded a successful food drive, collecting a staggering 578 pounds of nonperishable food items. This generous donation will provide approximately 2,985 servings to families in need through the Western Tidewater Branch of the Foodbank of Southeastern Virginia and the Eastern Shore.

The annual food drive, a collaborative effort between the JROTC program and the local food pantry, has become a cherished tradition at Franklin High. This year, students, parents and staff rallied together to exceed expectations, demonstrating the power of community and compassion.

“We are incredibly proud of the overwhelming support from our school community,” Lt. Col. Linwood Wright said. “This food drive is more than just a collection of items; it’s a testament to the kindness and generosity of our students and staff.”

The Foodbank’s Western Tidewater Branch, located at 618 South St. in Franklin, plays a vital role in providing essential food assistance to families facing food insecurity. The donations collected through the Franklin High food drive will directly impact the lives of countless individuals and families in the local community.

By organizing and participating in this food drive, the JROTC program continues to instill values of service, leadership and citizenship in its cadets.
