Franklin City Public Schools Assistant Superintendent of Operations Dr. Clint Walters sent out a letter Tuesday, Dec. 3, via social media to parents and staff at S.P. Morton Elementary School to provide a positive update on the HVAC replacement project underway at the school.

In his letter, Walters stated, “Nearly all units in the main building have been replaced, including both classrooms and common spaces, such as the gymnasium, media center and cafeteria.”

He added that much of that work has been done ahead of schedule. His department is working  with the contractors to ensure units are properly connected to the control panel. That will enable  the crew to monitor and adjust temperatures as needed.

Walters also acknowledged that a change in the weather has temporarily made places chilly in the building.

“Unfortunately, we are experiencing a bitter cold snap, which is now impacting the temperatures  in some of our classrooms,” he stated. “The maintenance team and I have collected temperature data from each classroom to ensure our students have an environment conducive to learning. In rooms where the temperature has dropped, we are placing temporary space heaters until the units begin working properly. We will continue to monitor conditions during this transition period.”

The assistant superintendent thanked everyone for patience while the division works to provide  the school with improved heating and cooling.
