MECHANICSVILLE β Charles Holmes Phillips, age 83, (1940-2024) of Mechanicsville, Virginia passed away on Dec. 2 at Memorial Regional Hospital. Charles has lived in several towns during his lifetime including Etowah, Tennessee, Marshall, North Caroli
na, Boykins, Franklin and Richmond Virginia before settling in Mechanicsville. Charles worked in the sales industry most of his life but enjoyed his downtime more, often being found on the golf course or at a pool table or backgammon with friends.
Charlie, as he was affectionately known later in life, began dancing with his brother, Billy, as a child but his love of dance lead him to many good times with many partners including his wife, Jane. Charles was a kind and comical man who had never met a stranger and gave new meaning to the gift of gab.
Charles is survived by his wife of 30 years, Jane Phillips. He is predeceased by his mother, βPatβ (Hattie Mae Patterson Phillips) Clary; brothers, Edward Aldon Phillips and William Frank Phillips, both of Franklin. Left also to cherish his memory are sisters-in-law, Carol Phillips and Toni Phillips; several nieces and nephews and life-long friend Bobby Duck (June).
Plans for a memorial gathering are not set at this time. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to American Lung Association or Dementia Society of America.
Thank you to everyone who loved and laughed with Charles during his lifetime. He will be greatly missed.
