Down the Middle Foundation recently shared details of its latest outreach program — the “DTM Shop with a Cop” initiative.

A foundation news release stated that this program aims to foster positive relationships between local children and law enforcement officers.

“With more than 15 years of commitment to philanthropy and community service, the foundation continues to create a lasting impact through various acts of service,” officials stated.

This annual “Shop with a Cop” initiative focuses on building stronger connections within the community, particularly between elementary school students and police officers. Selected children from Southampton County and Franklin public elementary schools will have the unique opportunity to participate in this program.

The “Shop with a Cop” event pairs each selected student with a police officer for a $100 shopping spree at Walmart, allowing them to celebrate Christmas in style.

The foundation requested assistance from local schools in identifying two second grade students who would benefit from this opportunity.

“Down the Middle Foundation expresses gratitude to Walmart, the Southampton County Sheriff’s (Office), the Franklin Police Department, local churches and the Franklin Department of Parks and Recreation for their support in helping to spread joy and create lasting memories for local children,” officials stated. “This initiative promises to not only brighten the holiday season for participants but also strengthen the bonds between law enforcement and the community they serve.”
