SUFFOLK – Harold Dean Worrell, 64, passed away suddenly on Dec. 19, 2024 while at work for Purdue AgriBusiness where he enjoyed loading ships with grain to go out to the world. He leaves a family who loved him endlessly.

Harold was married to Christina Worrell who is devastated by his loss. He was the son of the late Harvey Linwood Worrell Jr. and Evelyn Lucille Worell and grandson of the late Harvey L. Worrell Sr. (“Da Da”) and Lillian Gomer Worrell (“Ma Ma”) and Harold Dean Pope and Claudia Venelle Pope.

Left to cherish his memory is his wife Christina “Chris” Marie Worrell; his mother, Evelyn Pope Worrell; his

previous wife, Donna Karafe with whom he had a son he loved so much, Charles Dean Worrell (Whitney) and his stepchildren, Jennifer Britt-Smith (Kirby), Jaime Rogers and Matthew Mobly; his brothers, Harvey L. Worrell III (Jackie) and Gorden Lynn Worrell (Melinda); grandchildren, Tucker, Reid, Ashley (Duane), T.J. (Maty), Josh, Keegan and Matthew; and many great-grandchildren including the one he was looking forward to spoiling coming in January to T.J. and Maty.

Harold grew up on a farm on O’Kelly Drive in Suffolk where he had a wonderful childhood with his parents and grandparents he adored and who made sure he was seated in a pew at Holy Neck Christian Church every Sunday. He loved singing in the choir under the direction of Mrs. Felton.

Harold graduated in 1979 from Forest Glen High School. He worked at International Paper where he joined Mr. Maddrey on the radios to sing hymns to the Wood Yard. He also worked at Penn Engineering and Georgia Pacific. Harold was a diehard “Redskin” fan.

He was so proud of and loved his extended family, especially his aunts and uncles who gathered at the farm on Christmas Day where his Aunt Frances and Uncle Tommy were on the piano, while everyone enjoyed his MaMa’s cooking and his father’s famous well-known pork BBQ. His upbringing carried him through the ups and downs in his life. His prayer every day was for God to bless and protect his family, friends, and neighbors. He would want to say goodbye to his coworkers and thank them for their guidance over the years at Purdue, especially Otis, Mr. Grimes, J.T. and others.

He became a beloved part of his wife’s family. His mother-in-law, Carol Pope, will be there to meet him along with the people he so loved that are in heaven waiting. His grandson Josh said he will always remember his Pappal Harold for his whistling everywhere he went. Harold adored his Golden Girls: his mother Evelyn, Arlene Carson, Shirley Rountree and Clara Simpson (deceased).

A memorial service will be held at Holy Neck Christian Church at a later date.
