Franklin police investigating fatal shooting

The City of Franklin Police Department is investigating a reported shooting Sunday afternoon, Jan. 26, at the intersection of Laurel and South streets that led to the death of a Franklin man.
An FPD news release included a photo of a vehicle of interest as detectives investigate who may have been involved in the shooting.
The news release stated that on Sunday at about 3:39 p.m., the City of Franklin Emergency Communications Center began receiving calls regarding a shooting incident at the intersection of Laurel Street and South Street in the city of Franklin.
The first arriving units on scene discovered an individual, identified as Shuntrel McNear, 26, of Franklin, suffering from gunshot wounds, the release continued.
The FPD reported that City of Franklin Fire and Rescue personnel transported McNear to Bon Secours – Southampton Medical Center where he succumbed to his injuries.
Police stated that McNear’s body has been transported to the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner in Norfolk.
The release noted that detectives are seeking information about the vehicle of interest pictured in the photo accompanying this story. It is believed to be a gold or beige Honda or Toyota sedan with dark, tinted windows.
This is an active investigation.
