The Franklin Department of Parks and Recreation, in partnership with the Camp25 Foundation, kicked off the Youth Basketball and Cheer League on Sunday, Jan. 19, at J.P. King Jr. Career and Technical Academy.
The league features young athletes from Western Tidewater participating across three age divisions: Rookie Division (ages 4-7), Junior Division (ages 8-10) and Senior Division (ages 11-14).
The season continued on Sunday, Jan. 26, with exciting matchups. The Senior Division opened the day with a nail-biter, as the No. 2 seed Warriors (2-0) edged out the No. 5 seed Celtics (0-2) in a close 34-33 game.
The Rookie Division followed, with the Blue Devils impressing the crowd with their energy, fast breaks and steals.
Wrapping up the day, Team Buddy (2-0) from the Junior Division claimed its second win, defeating Camp25 (1-1) with a final score of 15-8.
More thrilling basketball action will continue on Sundays, which are the league’s game days, and the championship games will take place on Sunday, March 9, at 5:30 p.m.
We encourage the community to come out and support these young athletes as they showcase their skills, teamwork and love for the game.
