SALEM—Franklin wrestler Emmanuel Ricks placed seventh in the 195-pound class during the Virginia High School League State Wrestling Championships at the Salem Civic Center on Friday and Saturday.

Ricks won three matches and lost two. He won the medal after winning a decision over Victor Rodriguez from Arcadia High School.

“He did a good job,” said Franklin Coach Daniel “Bull” Johnson. “He’s a senior, so I’m glad he won a medal.”

It was Ricks’ second trip to the state tournament.

Franklin junior Xavier Freeman, who took second in the 126-pound weight class in the regional tournament to qualify for his third trip to the state tourney, did not win a medal. Freeman finished in the top 12.
