SA baseball wins season opener

PORTSMOUTH—The Southampton Academy baseball team opened the season with a 4-1 win over Alliance Christian School.
SA opened the scoring in the third inning with a leadoff hit by Matt Nixon. Carson Camp got on base with a fielder’s choice and scored on an Alliance error.
Alliance tied the game 1-1 in the fourth inning.
Camp scored on an RBI single by Jacob Holland to give the Raiders a 2-1 lead in the fifth. Sean Raulston scored on a sacrifice bunt by Ethan Edwards in the sixth inning to put the Raiders up 3-1. SA closed out the scoring in the top of the seventh when Wesley Barnes reached with a single, stole second and scored on a Holland single.
SA pitcher Tonee Hill picked up the win.
The Raiders had seven base hits.
SA will host Brunswick Academy at 4:30 p.m. today, March 13.
