FRANKLIN—The Franklin High School girls’ tennis team lost 5-4 to Brunswick High School Thursday.

The Lady Broncos split singles 3-3. Asya Lee, Jeanetta Sessoms and Tyreckka Hawks won their matches for Franklin.

In doubles action, Franklin’s No. 1 tandem of Lee and Sessoms defeated Aleah Lambert and Blanca Alveraz to give Franklin a 4-3 advantage. However, due to rain, the match was called with Franklin behind in the No. 2 and No. 3 doubles matches by scores of 3-4 and 4-5, respectively. This gave the Lady Bulldogs the two game points for their 5-4 victory.

Franklin is 1-1 on the season.

In action from Tuesday, Franklin’s Lee and partner Maura Zurfluh defeated Southampton High School’s Kiana Tines and Melia Hill 9-7 to break a 4-4 tie for a Lady Bronco win.

The visiting Lady Broncos took a 4-2 lead in the singles’ matches; Franklin struggled to win the fifth and deciding game point.

Southampton won the third doubles match 9-7 and the second doubles match in a tiebreaker 9-8 (10-6) to even the match score at four game points each.
