Mr. Edward D. ‘Bud’ Bynum

NEWSOMS—Mr. Edward D. “Bud” Bynum of Sunbeam Road, Newsoms, Va., departed this life on March 21, 2012, in his home.

The Southampton County native was born February 22, 1934.

He was a member of White Oak Spring Baptist Church where he served as chairman of the Trustee Board and a Senior Usher Board member.

In 1997, “Bud” retired from the Virginia Department of Transportation after 36 years of service.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Jean A. Bynum; a son, Edward B. Bynum Sr.; and nine siblings.

Mr. Bynum is survived by one daughter, Katina M. Bynum of the home; two sons, Marvin Eugene Bynum (Joan), Franklin, Va., and Michael Anthony Bynum (Barbara), Portsmouth, Va.; two sisters, Shirley Murphy and Cynthia B. Artis, Franklin, Va.; one brother, Robert Bynum Jr., Franklin, Va.; seven grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; daughter-in-law, Betty Grant; and nieces, nephews and cousins.

A homegoing service will be held at 3 p.m. Sunday, March 25, 2012, at White Oak Spring Baptist Church, 26125 Delaware Road, Franklin, Va., with Reverend J.J. Ferguson officiating.

Mr. Bynum’s remains will be placed in church for viewing by 1:30 p.m. on the day of the service.
