Fun weekend ahead

Nothing to do in Western Tidewater?
It’s a familiar refrain that, frankly, we’ve never understood.
Take this weekend, for example, when a fun-seeker can choose among:
• Down Home Day, an annual spring event at the Ag and Forestry Museum in Courtland, where visitors of all ages can take a step back in time and learn about the simplified life of yesteryear. Activities are planned from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday.
• Renaissance Faire, set for 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday at the Walter Cecil Rawls Library in Courtland, will take participants even further back in time, to the medieval era, for a taste of life in 15th- and 16th-century Europe.
• The Spring Fling, a beach-music bonanza on Sunday afternoon at the Southampton County Fairgrounds. The gates will open at 1 p.m., and the music begins at 2.
The cost of admission is affordable at each event, and the weather forecast is perfect for an outdoor event: sunny skies and high temperatures in the low 70s to mid-80s.
Anyone who complains that there’s nothing to do in Western Tidewater simply isn’t looking very hard.
