What a great turnout in Suffolk on Wednesday for the job fair hosted by Green Mountain Coffee Roasters.

More than 1,000 showed up at the Hilton Garden Inn to apply for some of the 800 positions that will be offered once the Vermont-based company opens its new production and distribution facility at the Shirley T. Holland Intermodal Park on Route 460 in Windsor. The company makes single-serving packets for its Keurig brewing system and will be roasting, packing and distributing coffee from the Windsor location.

From what we understand, many of the people who applied for jobs seemed desperate for any type of work. Some were unemployed, others were underemployed and others were part-timers looking for full-time jobs with benefits.

It will be interesting to see how the jobs play out. Hopefully, this company moving to Western Tidewater will have a positive impact on this region as well as all of Hampton Roads.
