To the Editor:

I write to inform Franklin residents of one fact they may not know about our mayor, Jim Councill.

He currently serves on the Unit Board of Directors of the Franklin Unit of Boys & Girls Clubs of Southeast Virginia. Jim has been there from the start, when the Franklin Unit first opened in March 2003, advocating for our own Boys & Girls Club and its members, ages 6 to 18.

He has supported the club with his time, his talent and his treasure. He actually attends board meetings each month and travels to Norfolk each year to attend the organization’s annual Youth of the Year Dinner.

He is committed to Boys & Girls Clubs in Franklin because he believes in the organization’s focus to achieve three priority outcomes with our young people —academic success, good character and citizenship, and healthy lifestyles.

Jim does so many things for our great city. I just wanted to let you know about this one.
