The Dorchester Square Reunion 2012 is planned for this summer.
The event opens at 7 p.m. Friday, Aug. 17, with a meet-and-greet at the Armory Hall Picnic Area. A cookout will be held noon to 6 p.m. Saturday, Aug, 18, at the Camptown Playground, and a Grown Folks Party will follow from 10 p.m. to 2 a.m. at Oaktree Club.
The reunion will close with Sunday’s Best Fellowship from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the Regional Development Workforce Center at Paul D. Camp Community College.
• Airfield 4-H Educational Center recently hosted an Administrative Assistant’s luncheon and fashion show to benefit 4-H and promote the 3rd Annual Community Walk for Breast Cancer on Saturday, April 28.
Those who participated in the fashion show were Valarie Ricks, Yvonne Baker, Betty Jo Gay, Libby Gatewood, Kim Bain, Pamela Jones, Roselyn Harrell, Sandy Stringfield, Charlene Shaw and Sharri Rhodes.
• Paul D. Camp Community College recently celebrated Student Appreciation Week, which included treats, trivia games and drawings for prizes.
In addition, Franklin Southampton Alumni Chapter of Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity, in partnership with the
PDCCC Student Government Association, hosted a viewing of the film “Red Tails” at the Regional Workforce Development Center. A cookout was held with games, music and a guest appearance of the Chick-fil-A cow mascot.
“The student leaders took the lead in making the week engaging and exciting,” said PDCCC Student Activities Coordinator MeChelle Blunt. “The partnerships with Chick-fil-A and the men of Franklin Southampton Alumni Chapter of Kappa Alpha Psi enhanced the efforts to get more students involved in activities while pursuing their college careers.”
• The Nansemond-Suffolk Academy kindergartners recently presented “The Three Billy Goats Gruff.”
Every student learned a speaking part, often more than one, as well as nine songs. They were dressed in handmade costumes. The set included a real rickety bridge on loan from Boy Scout Troop No. 1.
A student art show followed it. One item sold for $1,000. The $1,500 in total proceeds will benefit Relay For Life.
