Wamer Lewis Mayes

WAVERLY—Wamer Lewis Mayes, 69, of Waverly passed away on Wednesday, Nov. 17, 2010.

He was a member of Waverly Volunteer Rescue Squad for over 25 years, where he served in many positions such as Captain and First Lieutenant and received the honor of Squadsman of the Year on multiple occasions.

He was the son of the late Lewis Patrick Mayes and Mildred Elaine Lewis Mayes.

Mr. Mayes is survived by his wife, Kathleen M. Mayes; sons Wamer Lewis Mayes Jr. and wife, Sherry, William Frederick Mayes and wife, Amy, and Andrew Wade Mayes and wife, Michelle; grandchildren Katie, Taylor, Ally, Lewis, Emma, Owen, Dylan and Mason; sisters Dorothy Mayes and Pattie Mae Upton; brother Hugh Mayes; brother-in-law, William H. Morris and wife, Joyce; and several nieces and nephews.

The family received friends Friday, Nov. 19, 2010, at the Purviance Chapel of J.T. Morriss & Son Funeral Home in Wakefield from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. A funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. on Sunday, Nov. 21, 2010, at the funeral home. Burial will follow at Waverly Cemetery.
