Jimmy L. Taylor

FRANKLIN—Mr. Jimmy L. Taylor of Thomas Street, Franklin, Va., departed this life on May 7, 2012, while a patient in Sentara Norfolk General Hospital.

He was born May 25, 1958, to Ella Ophelia Taylor and the late Elbert Taylor in Franklin, Va.

Jimmy graduated from Franklin Public School System and furthered his education at Virginia State University where he received an Industrial Arts Degree.

Upon graduation, Jimmy served his country in United States Army.

Jimmy was also an educator in the Newport News, Caroline County and Fredericksburg Public School Systems. He also was employed with the penal system in Richmond, Va.

In 1981 Jimmy was initiated into Lambda Nu Chapter of Omega Psi Phi Fraternity.

He is survived by his mother, Ella Ophelia Taylor; sister, Valaida T. Benton (Gary); aunts, Bessie Lee Scott and Gertrude Watson; great-aunts, Ruth Boykins and Cora Smith; great uncle, Henry Taylor; niece, Valicia (Carlos); nephew, LaKenneth, cousins; and many caring friends.

 

A homegoing celebration will be held Monday, May 14, 2012, at 1 p.m. at First Baptist Church, 318 Hall St., Franklin, Va., with the pastor, Reverend D. Shawrod Riddick Jr. delivering the message of comfort. The committal and benediction will be in Southview Cemetery.

On the day of the service, Jimmy’s remains will rest in church for viewing by 11 a.m.
