PORTSMOUTH—Chief Petty Officer Retired Bravitt Manley Sr. of Avondale Road, Portsmouth, Va., passed Nov. 23, 2010, while a patient in Maryview Hospital. The Rich Square, N.C., native served his country for 21 years in the U.S. Navy and retired in 1964.

Mr. Manley was a member of St. Marks Episcopal Church, Suffolk, Va., where he served on the Vestry. He was also a member of the Fleet Reserve Association, The USS Wright CVL 49 and The USS Ticonderoga CVA 14.

He is survived by his wife, Celtine Manley of Portsmouth, Va.; two sons, Bravitt Manley Jr. Esq., Centreville, Va., and Gordon Manley, Portsmouth, Va.; two sisters, Faye McFeeters, Murfreesboro, N.C., and Lois M. Ridout, Newport News, Va.; five grandchildren, Carlos, Justin, Matthew, Mario and Marlena; two great-grandchildren, Lyric and Maylasia; and other relatives and many friends.

A memorial service was held at 1 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 28, 2010, in the chapel of Wm. M. Johnson & Sons Funeral Home, Inc., 224 S. Main St., Franklin, Va., with Father Frederick Walker officiating. FRANKLIN—Joe Prince Porter of Franklin died Nov. 21, 2010.

A funeral service was held Tuesday at Mt. Tabor Baptist Church, Newsoms. Burial was in the church cemetery.
