SA softball moves on to state semifinals

COURTLAND—The Southampton Academy softball team beat Tidewater Academy 9-1 Wednesday to advance to the state semifinals against defending champion Kenston Forest at 3 p.m. today, May 17, at the Petersburg Sports Complex.

Chelsea Speight gave up four hits and struck out six. Beth Waller went 2-for-4 with two RBIs and two runs scored. Whitley Smith went 2-for-4 with a double and an RBI.

Ashten Hinkle went 2-for-3 with two doubles, three RBIs and two runs scored and Kaitlyn Newsome went 3-for-3 with two RBIs and one run scored.
