FRANKLIN—A North Carolina man was treated at Southampton Memorial Hospital after he was stabbed in the abdomen and lower back, said Franklin Police Lt. Tim Whitt.

Craig Hughes, 45, of Blandboro apparently refused to cooperate with police, who were called to the hospital at 12:15 a.m. Monday.

It’s not known if the stabbing occurred in the city, Whitt said.

Hughes, a contractor working at International Paper, told hospital staff he was stabbed when someone tried to rob him, Whitt said.
