Steve and Pat Ferguson of Newsoms and their daughter, Christy Ferguson Bayoumi, in late October took a two-week trip to Egypt.
“We did a lot of sightseeing,” said Pat, officer manager for Deerfield Men’s Work Center. “Egypt is an extremely large country; 25 million people live in Cairo. The traffic is unbelievable.”
The family visited the pyramids, Sphinx, museums in Cairo and Luxor, and temples and tombs of some of the famous kings and queens. They also took a four-day cruise on the Nile River with an overnight stay in a Nubian village.
Pat noted the food was outstanding, especially the breads, pasta dishes, and burger and rice wrapped in grape leaves.
She and her husband, who is a former International Paper employee, flew from Dulles International Airport in Washington, D.C., to Austria before heading to Cairo. It was a 12- to 13-hour flight.
The couple’s daughter works for the American Red Cross, helping with disasters in foreign countries. Christy’s husband, Ehab, is from Egypt.

“She thought it was a great store, out in the country, on 58,” Bicknell said.
Bicknell and store co-owner Jane Riddick-Fries will participate in taping the show on Dec. 15 at the television studio. They plan to take peanuts, scarves, jewelry and more.
• Finally, heard from Steven Savedge from Elberon in Surry County.
