SMH wins ChamberGolf tourney

FRANKLIN—The Southampton Memorial Hospital team of Stefan Gee, Phil Wright, Dan Howe and Jonathan Wright won the 20th annual ChamberGolf Tournament hosted by Franklin-Southampton Area Chamber of Commerce at Cypress Cove Country Club.

Posting a score of 59, the winners’ names will be added to the Joe Dail Low Gross Tournament Champions plaque, which memorializes Joe Dail.

Dail was tournament chairman for many years, and his dedication and inspiration made ChamberGolf a successful event throughout the years, said Teresa Beale, executive director for the Chamber.

Second place went to Chris West, Brian Hampton, John Gray and Lin Williams. Placing third was the team of Jason Rebbe, Dan Courtney, Andrew Gregory and Reed Sloat.

Second-flight winners were Bob Powell, Will Holt, David Britt and Bobby Pope, first; Robbie Purvis, Walker Gillette, Dan Hoctor and Sion Carr, second; and John Beale, Charlie Corbitt, Connie Corbitt and Cora Ann Johnson, third.

Third-flight winners were Garnett Cleaton, Jim Hansford, Brad Ricks and Mitch Reynolds, first; Mac Beale, Bull Johnson, Bill Turner and Erin Lowe, second; and Frank Rabil, Lynn Powell, Mac Coker and Harold Blythe, third.

The event ended with the Charter Business Putting Challenge. Charlie Corbitt placed first, Lance Simms second and Bud Brotzman third.

Event committee members were Michael Clark, WLQM; Tony Clark, The Tidewater News; Greg Cook, Community Electric Coop.; Meghan Councill, Davenport & Co.; Todd Rose, Allstate; and Melissa Rose and Beale.

SMH featured “The Swing Doctor” — Professional Golf Association teaching pro Danny Simonsen, who offered coaching at the driving range and putting green.

Hole-in-one prizes offered but not won were a 2012 Ford Focus sponsored by Blake Ford on hole No. 8 and a one-carat diamond sponsored by Smith Jewelers on hole No. 10.
