Southampton High School girls finish 16-1, host region tournament Monday

FARMVILLE—The Southampton High School girls’ softball team finished the regular season with a 15-2 Southside District win over Prince Edward on Thursday.

The Lady Indians improved to 16-1 overall and 10-1 in the district and will host the opening game of the region tournament at 1 p.m. Monday against Culpeper High School. Southampton is seeded No. 1.

Ashlee Buehner went the distance on the mound as the Lady Indians allowed one hit out of the infield.

On defense, Southampton had 17 hits.

“I could not be more impressed with the way we played today,” said Southampton Coach Susan Melbye. “We knew that we need this win to prove that we have what it takes to take the next step in the region.”
