FRANKLIN—An inch to 2 inches of snow is expected to accumulate before snow showers taper off by noon today, according to meteorologist Dan Proch with the National Weather Service in Wakefield.
Snowfall in Western Tidewater began at about 5:30 this morning and hit the Norfolk and Virginia Beach area around 6, Proch said. As of 9 a.m. today, Richmond had close to 2 inches of snow, and it was beginning to stick to roadways.
By afternoon today, temperatures in Western Tidewater will climb into the high 30s with wind gusts up to 25 mph; tonight’s forecast calls for 20 degrees and wind gusts of up to 35 mph.
“There shouldn’t be any precipitation,” Proch said.
Tuesday and Wednesday call for highs in the mid-30s and lows in the upper teens. Winds will be up to 35 mph on Tuesday and fall 5 to 10 mph on Wednesday. There’s a 30 percent chance of a snow-rain mix on Thursday night.
Come the weekend, highs in the 40s are expected.
