PLAINS—Twice during a weekend tournament, Isle of Wight Academy sophomore Nathan Sivertson scored the game-winning points.
On Friday afternoon, Sivertson’s basket with 20 seconds left boosted the Chargers to a 52-51 win over Wakefield. He also scored a field goal with 1:32 left in Saturday’s game for an IWA 53-51 win over Highland School.
The Charges are 5-0 for the season. They also have not lost in four games over two seasons at the Wakefield School-sponsored tournament.
For Friday’s game in the tournament, which included several of the region’s top private and public school basketball squads, it went down to the wire.
IWA held Wakefield to 3 points in the final 3 minutes. Brandon Privette’s 3-pointer with 43.2 seconds remaining, cut the Owls’ lead to a point. Sivertson finished things off.
Privette completed the game with a varsity career-high 32 points, including six 3-pointers. Sivertson finished with 12 points.
Against Highland, IWA caused 8 second-half turnovers and kept Highland from scoring in last 6:29.
Privette hit a 3-pointer with 2:15 remaining to tie the score at 51, setting the stage for Sivertson’s winning basket. Charger Kendall Boyd closed Highland’s game-long lead to 2 points with his 3 at the 4:36 mark. That made the score 50-48.
The Chargers will host Broadwater at 7 p.m. Friday in a conference game.
