Robert Eric Comet

SUFFOLK-Bob Comet, Capt, USN, Ret., died Sunday, December 12, 2010 of injuries sustained in an automobile accident on Thursday December 9 in Suffolk, Virginia.  He was 85.  A service in Witness of the Resurrection will take place Thursday, December 16, 2010 at 2:00 p.m. at Emmanuel Episcopal Church, 400 N. High Street, Franklin, Virginia 23851. Following the service, the family will receive friends at the home of Beth and Anthony Cobb at 22500 Scottswood Drive, Franklin, Virginia.

Bob graduated from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill under the Navy’s V-12 program during World War ll.  He remained active in the Navy for 26 years, retiring at the rank of Captain. He saw military action in both the Korean and Vietnam Wars.  He then had a second career in Industrial Relations with Union Camp Paper Company in Franklin, Virginia.  In retirement he remained very active as a volunteer ship modeler at both the Hampton Roads Naval Museum in Norfolk, and at the Mariner’s Museum in Newport News where he worked on intricate sailing models in front of the visiting public.  A member of Emmanuel Episcopal Church in Franklin, VA, he sang in the choir and served on the church Vestry.

Bob had a life-long love of ship modeling, sailing, and woodworking.  As a member of the Hampton Roads Ship Model Society he shared his skill and passion for modeling.

Bob was pre-deceased by his first wife, Dorothea Bosch Comet and four brothers: John, Edgar, Herbert and Walter.  He is survived by his wife Karen Robuck Comet, his son Robert (Rob) Comet (wife Helen and children Lauren and Matt) of Richmond, Virginia, daughter Beth Comet Cobb (husband, Anthony and children Jamie, Jessica, Joanna and Jason) of Franklin, Virginia and daughter Lisa Comet Davis (husband Glenn and children Erica and Allie) of Lake Forrest, California.  Other survivors include stepchildren Donald Robuck of Franklin, Virginia, Debra Stansberry of Oak Ridge, Tennessee,   David Robuck of Virginia Beach and step-grand children Samantha Stansberry, Matthew Stansberry and Faith Bradshaw.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to either the Hampton Roads Ship Model Society care of Eric Harfst, Treasurer, 133 Mid Ocean, Williamsburg, VA or Emmanuel Episcopal Church  Endowment Fund, P.O.
