FRANKLIN—The Republican Committee for Franklin and Southampton County will host Susan Allen, wife of senatorial candidate George Allen from 2:30 to 3:30 p.m. Tuesday, June 5, at Fred’s restaurant in Franklin.

Afterward, Susan Allen will walk to other downtown businesses with a possible visit to Courtland.

A former Virginia governor who served in the senate from 2001 to 2007, George Allen is running against former Democratic Gov. Tim Kaine for the seat held by retiring U.S. Sen. James Webb, a Democrat.

Others in the primary are Del. Robert Marshall, R-Prince William; Jamie Radtke; and Bishop E.W. Jackson of Chesapeake.

The committee is also preparing for the primary on Tuesday, June 12. Volunteers are needed at the polls to pass out literature and make calls from 6 to 9 a.m., 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. and 5 to 7 p.m. For more information, contact Walt Brown at 334-5510.
