Elizabeth P. Barnes

Severn, NC – Elizabeth Prince Barnes, 93, widow of Garland Dallas “Mutt” Barnes, passed away December 25, 2010 at home. She was born in Southampton County, VA, the daughter of the late Eppa Beale and Bessie Drewry Prince, and was predeceased by a daughter, Nancy Prince Barnes, a sister, Virginia P. Barkley; and two brothers, Eppa B. Prince, Jr., and George A. Prince. Mrs. Barnes was a graduate of Longwood College and was a retired teacher, having taught at Northampton County High School and Severn Elementary School in North Carolina and Holland High School and Courtland High School in Virginia. She was a former member of several local civic groups and was a member of Severn Baptist Church.

Left to cherish her memory are her daughter, Paige B. Pinnix and her husband, Edward of Severn; her son, Dallas Barnes, Jr. and his wife, Patricia of Battleboro; a brother-in-law, Welford “Holy” Barkley of Severn; eleven grandchildren, Harrison and Drew Pinnix, Jonathan and his wife, Bambi, Zachery, Hannah, Patrick, Benjamin, Andrew, Jeremiah, Jesse, and Maddie Barnes; two great-grandchildren, Angel and Nate Barnes; one niece and six nephews.

A memorial service will be held at 11 am Thursday, December 30, 2010 at the Severn Baptist Church with the Rev. Brent Hobbs officiating. A private interment will be at the Severn Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6:30 to 8:00 p. m. Wednesday evening at Mrs. Barnes’s residence. Memorials may be made to the George D.
