WAVERLY—A Wakefield man has been identified as the pedestrian who was killed after jumping into the path of a tractor-trailer driven by a North Carolina man in Waverly, Virginia State Police said.
Quentin Aubrey Lensey, 41, of the 600 block of Higgens Street was walking in the middle of Route 460 at 1:45 a.m. Thursday, police said. Trucker Ronnie Ford of Rocky Mount was eastbound near Route 614 when he saw Lensey.
Ford swerved into the opposite lane to miss Lensey, and the victim apparently jumped in front of his rig.
Moments later, the driver of a second vehicle traveling in the opposite direction ran over Lensey, but did not stop, police said. That driver remains unknown.
The victim had no identification so family could not be initially notified.
Ford was wearing a seat belt and alcohol was not a factor, police said. He will not be charged.
