Hats off to garden club

Congratulations to Country Acres Garden Club for reaching quite a milestone.
The Southampton County club in 2010 celebrated its 50th anniversary. That’s a half-century of beautifying the area with flowers and doing community service.
The club also deserves kudos for all it did last year and continues to do this year to celebrate its anniversary. Members sure have touched a lot of lives.
In October, they made floral arrangements for Southampton Memorial Hospital patients and East Pavilion nursing home residents. The following month, members made arrangements to go with the western theme at the Village at Woods Edge. The club also reworked the raised garden beds at the Village with pansies and cabbage plants for the fall and winter.
This month, they made a significant donation of $1,000 to pay for landscaping at the Southampton Ag and Forestry Museum in Courtland.
The club is not done yet. Come February, members will make bedside arrangements for patients in the hospital. And in March, they will make arrangements for Southampton Academy to be sold at its annual Antique Show. In April, the club will donate daffodils to the residents at Courtland Healthcare Center.
They’ve done a lot to celebrate their anniversary and serve their community in the process. So if you see members Theresa Applewhite, Texie Bryant, Gail Camp, Jeanne Emerson, Beth Fox, Susan Glover, Pat Hartman, Connie Marks, Debbie Marks, Julia Owens, Sally Owens, Anne Pittman, Ina Gee Pittman, Carol Pope, Kim Pope, Peggy Simmons, Ann Bain, Joanne Fox or Ann Pope, say thanks.
