A winter storm that dumped heavy snow and on central and western Virginia – and was expected to deposit a few inches on Western Tidewater – came and went with a whimper this weekend.

Franklin, Southampton County and southern Isle of Wight County got only a dusting of snow from the system, which did bring cold rain and some sleet beginning Friday night and lasting through Saturday evening.

Snow and sleet began falling in Franklin just before 5 p.m. Saturday, but the precipitation had stopped by 7:30 p.m.

No major problems were reported with streets and roads in the area.
