For more than 30 years, thousands have looked forward to the second weekend in August for the Franklin-Southampton County Fair.

Kids eagerly anticipate the games and rides. Kids at heart haul lawn chairs by the hundreds to stake out a good spot in front of the main stage for top-flight musical acts.

Young ladies prepare for weeks in hopes of being crowned fair queen. Farmers prepare to show off their finest in the livestock and agriculture contests.

Crafters set up their wares in hopes of landing a prize of their own. Local civic organizations man concession stands and prepare local delicacies to serve to a hungry crowd.

The 4-H contests show off the best of our young agricultural community.

Amateur performers of all ages polish up their acts for the talent show.

A good time, once again, will be had by all.

The fair, for a few years, experienced a period of decline. But anyone who attended last year’s fair can attest that it was one of the best in many years.

Thanks to the hard work and dedication of the fair committee, this year is expected to be even bigger and better than last. We’re excited to see how this year’s version turns out and hope everyone takes some time out from Thursday, Aug. 9, through Saturday, Aug. 11, to experience all that the fair in Courtland has to offer.
