SEDLEY—Southampton County Sheriff’s Office is looking into who blew up a mailbox in Sedley with a homemade bottle bomb.
The sheriff’s office received a call at 4:45 p.m. Saturday about an explosive device in a mailbox in the 30000 block of Sycamore Avenue, said Sgt. Wanda Covington. The unidentified victim told police that about 1 a.m. the same day he heard what sounded like a muffled shotgun blast, but he did not investigate.
Evidence in the damaged mailbox indicated it was a bomb, Covington said.
