Tidewater boys slip from first place in VCC with 51-43 loss

FARMVILLE—Tidewater Academy slipped from first place after a 51-43 Virginia Commonwealth Conference loss to Fuqua on Tuesday night.

The Warriors are now tied for the top spot with Steward School and will have to defeat fourth-place Greensville at home on Friday to maintain that position. If Tidewater loses to Greensville, the Warriors will finish in second place.

Tidewater is 19-4 overall and 13-2 in the league.

Warrior Coach Walter Westbrook blamed the loss on the season’s worst shooting — 27 percent . The game was tied 32-32 going into the fourth quarter.

Tidewater senior Mike Greene led with 20 points. Junior Lamont Moore added 12.

LaVon Harper scored 27 for Fuqua.

Tidewater will host the opening of the VCC Tournament at 7 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 22.
