COURTLAND—The owner of a Courtland business wishes to relocate to the Capron area, but will need permission from Southampton County officials.
Anthony Austin, owner of Austin Cycle Co. at 22186 Main St. across from the post office, would like to move the business to his home at 22419 Barrow Road, Capron, according to Beth Lewis, community development director for the county.
The area is zoned for agriculture, which does not allow businesses without permission from the Board of Supervisors. Austin will seek to rezone a half acre of his 1.5 acres west of Route 35 to commercial in hopes of using an existing garage for his business.
The County Planning Commission will hold public hearings at 7:30 p.m. Thursday, March 10, in the Board Room of the Southampton County Office Center at 26022 Administration Center Drive in Courtland to consider Austin’s request. One hearing will be held for the rezoning request and the other for a change to the county’s Comprehensive Plan.
The Planning Commission will either recommend or deny the changes and then forward the requests onto the Board of Supervisors for a decision.
Austin Cycle repairs motorcycles, cars and trucks, Lewis said.
Austin could not be reached for comment.
Anyone wishing to speak in favor of or opposition to the request is encouraged to appear and be heard at the public hearings.
